| I Keep all of my important data on my Hard drive, ie., maps, survival manuals, etc.(I assume most of you do too). But what happens if we are hit by a nuke, an atomic bomb, or just an EMP? our radios, computers, and generally all electronics will be turned into paperweights. but this is actually easy to protect yourself and gear. this web site is informative about EMPs and how to protect your stuff from them. http://www.endtimesreport.com/EMP.html | |

| good information for anyone that will rely on electronics. I have posted some of this on other places due to the importance of protecting your comms from EMP. Thanks S7ok0 ! great reminder | |

| After having done some research on this matter, we were able to ascertain that the usage of a common galvanized trash can set atop a framework of wood to isolate it from ground contact and having a heavy gauge copper ground wire attached would provide a low cost and very effective Faraday Cage.
Here in Montana, most homes have basements or other below ground area where the floor is several feet underground. Most have the room that qualifies as the "Man Cave". Sensitive electronics can easily be stored inside the can, and making sure the lid is on tight is all you need do to create that layer of protection.
I have also been told that at this point, EMP is little more than speculation and theory. What I would like to see is solid research that illustrates the actual threat presence of EMP, and making damned sure that it's not just another "Y2K" scenario designed to make people flip out and spend tons of money on silly, useless things when that money could well be spent in other directions.

| Can some one answer me this. What about metal buildings? If they are properly grounded would they act as a faraday cage? | |

| It is my understanding that so long as they are sufficiently electrically isolated that yes, it should provide some level of protection.
Best to keep items you are concerned with 36-48" underground. I'm told that's the best solution.
